Please Note: This activity corresponds directly to the book “Running Is Totally For Me”.
Gather different sports balls, a measuring tape and a writing utensil. Print the below printable activity sheet.
Mark a standing line. Have the child stand and throw each of the balls. Measure how far each ball is from the start. Discuss which ball is closest and furthest from the start line and why they think that happened. Have the child record their answers on the activity sheet.
Older kids can use the measuring tape. Younger kids can
measure by steps, their own feet or an object. You can then have the child repeat the activity, but by kicking the balls. Discuss how the results are different than previously.
To allow your children to experience this activity to the fullest degree you will want to purchase the corresponding book “Running Is Totally For Me”.
