Verb Actions

August 18, 2015 by Cassie

Get kids moving with this sports activity for kids that uses verb actions

Please Note: This activity corresponds directly to the book “Running Is Totally For Me”.

Prepare:
Review with your child the difference between nouns (people, places, objects) and verbs (action words). Together come up with verbs that they can read that describe movements within the sports from the book. (Ex: jump, hop, spin, walk, twist) Write one word per index card. You can also use the provided printable cards below.

Play:
The child draws an index card, reads the word and performs the word. If you have two children the game can be set up as a race or a relay for multiple children.

Tips:
Add an additional stack of index cards with numbers on them to practice identifying numerals. The child can then do the action word that many times or that many seconds.
